Check on the rear of your PS2, you will see a label similar to the one below! The numbers that follow the SCPH, will determine which version console you have.
V1,V2 ,V3 Identification.
Covering models SCPH 30001,30002,30003
Turn your PS2 upside down and check and see how many screws are present. The screws are covered by black plastic or rubber hole covers and can easily be removed with a small flat screwdriver.
If you have 10 screws, you have a V1, V2 or V3
V4, V5/6 and V7 consoles can be distinguished in that they only have 8 screws.
Covering models SCPH 30003, 30004 and 35004.
If the your console does not have the circled screw in the expansion bay as the picture below, then turn the console over !
and if there is an electrical hazard warning, then you have a V4
Covering models SCPH 30001R, 30002R, 30003R and 30004R although occasionally some SCPH 30003 and 30004 models are fitted with a V5/6 main board.
The only way to distinguish between a V5 and V6 is to remove the covers and look at the connector shown
Covering models SCPH 39001, 39002, 39003 and 39004
Covering the same model range as V7 but the main board will be labelled GH-022 and if you look at the main Bios chip on the mother board, you will see that it is coded 090.
Covering models SCPH 50001, 50002, 50003 and 50004
These consoles will be either black or satin silver in colour and have an Infrared receiver located between the power and eject buttons on the front of the console and the main board will be labelled GH-23.
Covering the same model range as V9 but the main board will be labelled GH-026
